This 5-day safari blends the raw wilderness of Ruaha National Park with the lush beauty of Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Starting from your chosen location, you’ll travel either by scenic road journey or a quick fly-in transfer, depending on preference. Ruaha, Tanzania’s largest national park, offers unparalleled opportunities to spot lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and rare antelope species against a backdrop of rugged baobab-studded landscapes. The adventure continues in Udzungwa, famous for its rainforest hikes, endemic primates, and the stunning Sanje Waterfalls. Accommodation is in comfortable lodges or tented camps that combine modern amenities with the authentic safari feel.
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Ruaha
You depart from your starting point, either flying directly into Msembe Airstrip or traveling by road through the Tanzanian countryside. On arrival in Ruaha, your guide greets you and takes you on an introductory game drive en route to the lodge. After settling in, enjoy lunch with sweeping views over the wilderness before heading out for an afternoon game drive to catch the park’s wildlife at its most active. The day ends with a relaxed dinner under the stars and an overnight stay at your lodge or tented camp inside or near the park.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Ruaha
After an early breakfast, set off for a full day in the park, complete with a picnic lunch to maximize your time in the wild. The vast landscapes host huge elephant herds, powerful predators, and an incredible variety of birdlife. Your guide navigates to prime viewing spots, from riverbanks where hippos and crocodiles linger to open plains where lions patrol. In the late afternoon, return to camp for a warm shower, sundowners, and dinner.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Udzungwa
A sunrise game drive offers a final chance to spot wildlife in Ruaha’s golden light. Returning to camp, enjoy breakfast before setting off for Udzungwa. The road journey takes you through changing landscapes, from savannah to fertile farmland. Arrive at Udzungwa in the afternoon, check in to your lodge, and unwind ahead of tomorrow’s hiking adventure.
Day 4: Hiking in Udzungwa Mountains
Fuel up with breakfast before meeting your park guide for a trek into Udzungwa’s rainforest. The trail to Sanje Waterfalls is a highlight, offering panoramic views and the refreshing mist of cascading water. Along the way, look out for rare primates like the Udzungwa red colobus monkey and diverse bird species. Return to the lodge in the afternoon for a relaxed evening, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely morning or take a short nature walk around the lodge before beginning your journey back to your starting point, either by road or flight. The safari ends with unforgettable memories of Tanzania’s wild beauty.
