Tour Overview
This 6-day safari takes you through three of Tanzania’s most remarkable wildlife and wilderness areas. Starting with Ruaha National Park, known for its vast landscapes and abundant big cats, you’ll then explore Selous Game Reserve’s rich diversity of elephants, wild dogs, and riverine wildlife. The journey finishes in the lush Udzungwa Mountains National Park, famous for its forest hikes and rare primates. Travel between parks can be arranged by scenic road transfers or quick domestic flights, based on your preference. Accommodation combines authentic lodges and tented camps that balance comfort with immersion in nature.
Day 1: Arrival and Afternoon Game Drive in Ruaha
Depart your specified location by road or flight to Ruaha National Park. Upon arrival, meet your guide and head out on an afternoon game drive. Ruaha’s sweeping plains and river valleys provide excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, elephants, and large herds of antelope. Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drives in Ruaha
Spend the entire day exploring Ruaha’s diverse ecosystems with morning and afternoon game drives. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild to maximize wildlife viewing time. The park is known for large prides of lions and impressive elephant populations. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Selous Game Reserve and Afternoon Game Drive
After breakfast, transfer by road or flight to Selous Game Reserve. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before embarking on an afternoon game drive along the Rufiji River. The reserve offers sightings of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and possibly wild dogs. Dinner and overnight follow at your lodge or camp.
Day 4: Full Day in Selous with Game Drives and Optional Boat Safari
Explore Selous with morning and afternoon game drives. Between drives, relax at your lodge. Optionally, take a boat safari on the Rufiji River to see aquatic wildlife and bird species from a unique perspective. Return for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Udzungwa Mountains National Park and Lodge Arrival
After breakfast, transfer to Udzungwa Mountains National Park by road. Arrive at your lodge near the rainforest and prepare for the next day’s hiking adventure. Enjoy a peaceful evening with dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Guided Hike to Sanje Waterfalls and Departure
Start the day with a guided hike through Udzungwa’s rainforest to the Sanje Waterfalls. Along the way, spot endemic primates like the Udzungwa red colobus monkey and diverse birdlife. Return to the lodge for lunch, then transfer back to your starting point by road or flight, concluding the safari.
