This 7-day safari takes you through four of southern Tanzania’s premier wildlife and wilderness areas: Ruaha National Park, Selous Game Reserve, Mikumi National Park, and Udzungwa Mountains National Park. The journey combines thrilling game drives, river safaris, and forest hikes, offering a full spectrum of Tanzania’s rich biodiversity. You can choose to travel between parks by road or by scheduled light aircraft flights, optimizing comfort and time. Accommodations range from comfortable lodges to authentic tented camps that blend relaxation with immersion in nature.
Day 1: Arrival and Afternoon Game Drive in Ruaha National Park
Begin your adventure by flying or driving to Ruaha National Park. Upon arrival, meet your guide and set off on an afternoon game drive to spot lions, elephants, leopards, and vast herds of antelope in this expansive wilderness. Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drives in Ruaha
Spend the day exploring Ruaha’s diverse habitats with morning and afternoon game drives, including a picnic lunch in the bush. Ruaha is famous for its large elephant populations and big cat sightings. Relax at camp in the evening with dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Selous Game Reserve and Afternoon Game Drive
After breakfast, transfer to Selous Game Reserve by road or flight. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon game drive along the Rufiji River. Expect sightings of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and possibly wild dogs. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp.
Day 4: Full Day Game Drives and Optional Boat Safari in Selous
Explore Selous with morning and afternoon game drives. Between drives, relax at the lodge. Optionally, take a boat safari on the Rufiji River to observe aquatic wildlife and birds from a different perspective. Return for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Mikumi National Park and Afternoon Game Drive
After breakfast, transfer to Mikumi National Park by road or flight. Check into your lodge and enjoy an afternoon game drive. Mikumi’s open plains offer great opportunities to see elephants, lions, giraffes, and large herds of zebra. Dinner and overnight follow.
Day 6: Morning Game Drive in Mikumi and Transfer to Udzungwa Mountains
Start with a morning game drive in Mikumi before transferring to Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Arrive at the lodge near the rainforest and prepare for the next day’s hike. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 7: Guided Hike in Udzungwa Mountains and Departure
Embark on a guided hike to the Sanje Waterfalls, enjoying sightings of endemic primates and diverse birdlife. Return to the lodge for breakfast and transfer back to your starting point by road or flight, concluding the safari.
