2 Day Fly-In Safari: Zanzibar to Nyerere National Park (Selous) & Back

Day 1: Zanzibar → Nyerere National Park (Fly-In) → Boat Safari → Game Drive → Bush Walk → Overnight Stay
Your journey begins with a morning flight from Zanzibar to Nyerere National Park airstrip. The flight offers stunning aerial views of the Indian Ocean, coastal plains, rivers, and untouched wilderness before landing inside Tanzania’s largest national park.
Upon arrival, your professional safari guide welcomes you and begins your wilderness experience.
A boat safari along the Rufiji River introduces you to one of Africa’s most spectacular river ecosystems. You will glide past large pods of hippos, crocodiles resting along sandy banks, and elephants gathering at the water’s edge. Birdlife is rich and active, including fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and bee-eaters.
After the river experience, you continue with a game drive across open savannahs and woodland areas. Wildlife sightings often include elephants moving in herds, giraffes feeding on acacia trees, zebras and wildebeests crossing plains, buffaloes grazing in groups, and predators such as lions and hyenas depending on movement patterns.
Later, you enjoy a guided bush walk experience led by an armed ranger, offering a closer connection to nature. This walk focuses on tracks, smaller wildlife, plant life, and ecosystem understanding, giving you a different perspective from vehicle-based safaris.
As the day ends, you proceed to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight stay in the heart of the wilderness.
Day 2: Sunrise Safari Experience → Return Flight to Zanzibar
The day begins with an early safari experience when wildlife is most active. This is the best moment to observe predators in motion, grazing herbivores, and the golden sunrise lighting the savannah.
After breakfast at the lodge or camp, you enjoy a final short drive en route to the airstrip, capturing last wildlife sightings and photography moments.
You then board your return flight to Zanzibar, arriving in the afternoon, marking the end of your safari adventure.
