Wildlife Safaris
Tanzania has incredible scenery and amazing natural wonders such as beaches, lakes, waterfalls and savannah but the star attraction is the abundant wildlife. There are over 300 species of mammals living here, including many animals you’re familiar with, like lions and zebras, along with others you’ve probably never heard of, like the gerenuk.
Tanzania is a fantastic destination for wildlife safaris, both during the migration when herds of wildebeest and zebra trek across the plains on their annual migrations and at any other time of the year.
When you visit, you can expect to see leopards, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, buffalo, elephants, and so much more, either lounging in the shade, feeding or wandering across the plains. You can even find rhinos and chimpanzees on safari if you know where to go, and Daigle Tours can take you there.
When it comes to a safari, the animals may be the star attraction, but you’ll also see insects and beautiful birds. Bird watchers love Tanzania because it’s home to more than 1,000 bird species but you don’t have to be a bird spotter to appreciate the beauty of the birds here. Your Daigle Tours guide will help you recognize and learn about the birds of Tanzania if that’s something you’re interested in.
So if you’re dreaming of a safari, you might be wondering where to start. The most popular wildlife route is the Northern Circuit. Here you will see majestic herds of wildebeest, flocks of glorious pink flamingos flying through the mysterious fog of alkaline lakes and much more.
Most people on a safari of the Northern Circuit also visit the town of Arusha to experience the rich cultural heritage. But if your main area of interest is wildlife, then the national parks like Serengeti, Tarangire and Lake Manyara will be the highlight of your visit.
Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania’s most famous destinations and rightly so. It is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is also a World Heritage Site. The crater itself is a microcosm of the massive Serengeti National Park and includes a staggering amount of wildlife. Even if you spend only one day in the Ngorongoro Crater during your safari, it’s still possible to spot all the large carnivores Africa is most famous for, which is truly amazing.
There are approximately 20,000 large mammals within the crater walls at any given time so you’ll be surrounded by animals when you visit Ngorongoro Crater and are likely to encounter elephant, black rhinoceros, hippopotamus, buffalo, eland, zebra, wildebeest, hartbeest, waterbuck, warthog, gazelle, baboons and monkeys, to mention just a few.
Wherever you go your safari will offer a unique and stunning display of wildlife in its natural habitat and the scenery is diverse.
As well as offering world-class wildlife safaris, Tanzania is famed for its gorgeous coastline with hundreds of miles of golden sand meeting lush green palm trees. Our large lakes are not only beautiful, but also are home to a myriad of fish and waterfowl. Majestic mountains rise above the plain and you can trek Mount Kilimanjaro, the “Roof of Africa” if you’d like to push yourself physically.
Because of the rich variety of different landscapes, you can combine a safari with sporting activities like balloon safaris, caving, snorkelling, diving, hiking or deep sea fishing. Walking safaris to see animals on foot are another unique and highly rewarding experience.
Tanzania often reaches a scorching daytime temperature of 30°C (86°C), but cooling sea breezes bring the temperature down to a pleasant level from June to September, making that a great time for your safari.
To find out more about our safaris, please check out our different itineraries to see what appeals to you most. The Northern Circuit safaris are the most popular, while the other areas appeal to wildlife lovers who want to escape the crowds or see specific animals, such as rhinos or chimpanzees.
