Your safari begins with a transfer from Dar es Salaam or a flight connection from Zanzibar into the vast wilderness of Nyerere National Park, one of Africa’s largest protected ecosystems.

Upon arrival, you are welcomed and transferred to your lodge or tented camp located along or near the Rufiji River system. After check-in and relaxation, you head out for your first safari experience: a sunset boat safari.

The river is alive with hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. Elephants are often seen drinking along the banks as the sun sets over the floodplains, creating a perfect introduction to the Selous ecosystem.

Today is dedicated to exploring the vast plains and woodlands of Nyerere. Early morning game drives take you deep into different habitats including open savannahs, wetlands, and dense bush.

You may encounter large elephant herds moving across the plains, prides of lions resting in the shade, giraffes browsing acacia trees, and buffalo herds crossing dusty tracks.

A picnic lunch in the bush allows you to remain fully immersed in the wilderness before continuing your afternoon drive until sunset.

Begin the day with a slow and immersive boat safari along the Rufiji River, the lifeline of Nyerere. The waterways reveal hippos surfacing in pods, crocodiles basking on riverbanks, and countless bird species including fish eagles, kingfishers, and herons.

Later, continue with a guided game drive into quieter regions of the park where wildlife movements are less predictable but highly rewarding. This combination of water and land safari gives a complete view of the ecosystem.

After breakfast, you begin your overland journey toward Ruaha National Park, Tanzania’s largest and most remote wilderness area. The drive takes you through changing landscapes, rural settlements, and open countryside.

As you approach Ruaha, the environment becomes more rugged, with baobab forests, rocky outcrops, and dry riverbeds dominating the scenery.

Upon arrival at your lodge inside or near the park, you settle in before heading out for a short evening game drive.

Today is a full immersion into Ruaha’s raw and untouched ecosystem. Morning and afternoon game drives take you across vast landscapes with very few other vehicles in sight.

Ruaha is known for its strong predator populations lions, leopards, and African wild dogs roam freely across the park. Large elephant herds and buffalo groups are also commonly seen, especially around water sources.

A bush picnic lunch keeps you deep in the wilderness before continuing your safari into golden-hour photography conditions.

This day offers a slower and more intimate safari experience. Accompanied by an armed ranger, you explore designated walking areas of Ruaha, learning about animal tracks, plants, insects, and survival patterns in the wild.

This experience reveals the hidden layers of the ecosystem that are often missed during game drives.

In the afternoon, continue with a relaxed game drive through different sections of the park, focusing on photography and final wildlife encounters in Ruaha’s vast landscapes.

After an early breakfast and optional short game drive, you begin your return journey by road or air transfer back to Dar es Salaam, or onward connection to Zanzibar.

This marks the end of your 7-day safari across two of Tanzania’s most iconic wilderness destinations Selous river systems and Ruaha’s baobab-studded plains.
