6 Days Nyerere (Selous), Mikumi, Udzungwa Safari Circuit

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Drive to Nyerere National Park (Selous)
Your safari begins early in Dar es Salaam, departing by road toward Nyerere National Park, one of Africa’s largest and most untouched wilderness areas.
The journey passes through rural settlements, open countryside, and miombo woodlands before reaching the vast Selous ecosystem. Upon arrival, you check into your lodge or tented camp near the Rufiji River.
In the evening, enjoy your first safari experience: a sunset boat safari. The river is alive with hippos, crocodiles, and rich birdlife, while elephants are often seen along the riverbanks at dusk.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Nyerere (Selous)
Today is dedicated to exploring the vast wilderness of Nyerere. Early morning game drives take you through open plains, swamp areas, and dense bushland.
Expect sightings of elephants in large herds, lions resting under acacia trees, giraffes browsing in open clearings, and buffalo moving across the savannah. The park’s enormous size ensures a remote and uncrowded safari experience.
A picnic lunch in the bush allows you to stay deep inside the park before continuing your afternoon game drive until sunset.
Day 3: Rufiji River Boat Safari + Bush Exploration
Begin the day with a slow boat safari along the Rufiji River, the lifeline of the Selous ecosystem. Channels and lagoons reveal hippos surfacing in pods, crocodiles sunbathing on sandbanks, and diverse bird species including fish eagles and kingfishers.
Later, continue with a guided game drive into quieter sections of the park, focusing on wildlife photography and deeper exploration of the ecosystem.
Evening relaxation at your lodge surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.
Day 4: Nyerere – Drive to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, you depart Nyerere and travel by road toward Mikumi National Park, passing through villages and scenic southern Tanzania landscapes.
Upon arrival, you enter the famous Mkata floodplain, where wildlife is often visible immediately. After check-in and rest, enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Zebras, giraffes, elephants, wildebeests, and lions are commonly seen across the open plains, making Mikumi one of the easiest parks for high-quality wildlife viewing.
Day 5: Mikumi – Drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park
After breakfast, you take a short scenic drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park, a completely different ecosystem known for rainforest biodiversity and dramatic landscapes.
The environment changes quickly from dry savannah to lush green forest, waterfalls, and mist-covered mountains. Upon arrival, you check into your lodge near the forest edge.
The afternoon is for relaxation or short nature walks, preparing for the next day’s trekking adventure.Day 6: Udzungwa Waterfalls Trek – Return to Dar es Salaam
Early morning begins with a guided hike into Udzungwa Mountains National Park. The trail passes through dense rainforest filled with endemic plants, monkeys, and rare bird species.
The highlight is the Sanje Waterfalls, a stunning multi-tier cascade dropping into forest pools. You can swim, relax, and enjoy panoramic views over the Kilombero Valley.
After the trek, you begin your return journey by road to Dar es Salaam, marking the end of your southern Tanzania safari circuit.
