4 Days Road Safari: Dar es Salaam, Nyerere (Selous), Mikumi

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Drive to Nyerere National Park (Selous)
Your safari begins early in Dar es Salaam, heading south-west toward Nyerere National Park, one of Africa’s largest protected wilderness areas.
The road journey passes through rural villages, roadside markets, and expansive miombo woodlands before reaching the Selous ecosystem. Upon arrival at your lodge or tented camp near the Rufiji River, you check in and relax.
In the evening, enjoy a sunset boat safari. The Rufiji River offers incredible wildlife encounters hippos in pods, crocodiles on sandy banks, and elephants often coming to drink as the sun sets.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Nyerere (Selous)
Today is dedicated to exploring the vast wilderness of Nyerere National Park. Early morning game drives take you through diverse habitats including open plains, wetlands, and dense bush.
Expect sightings of elephants in large herds, lions resting under acacia trees, giraffes feeding across savannahs, buffalo moving in groups, and possibly African wild dogs in remote areas.
A picnic lunch in the bush allows you to remain deep in the wilderness before continuing your afternoon game drive until sunset.
Day 3: Nyerere – Drive to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, you depart Nyerere and travel by road toward Mikumi National Park, enjoying scenic views of southern Tanzania’s countryside along the way.
Upon arrival, you enter the famous Mkata floodplain, where wildlife is often visible immediately. After check-in and rest, enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Mikumi offers excellent wildlife visibility with zebras, giraffes, elephants, wildebeests, and lions frequently seen across the open plains, making it ideal for relaxed safari viewing.
Day 4: Morning Safari in Mikumi – Return to Dar es Salaam
Your final day begins with an early morning game drive in Mikumi National Park, when wildlife is most active in the cool hours.
Expect elephants crossing roads, predators scanning the plains, and large herds of antelope moving across the savannah. After a short game drive or bush breakfast, you begin your return journey to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the evening.
This marks the end of your southern Tanzania road safari circuit.
