3 Days Road Safari: Dar es Salaam, Mikumi, Udzungwa
Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Drive to Mikumi National Park
Your safari begins early in Dar es Salaam, driving west along the southern safari corridor toward Mikumi National Park.
The route passes through rural villages, roadside markets, and open countryside before reaching the vast Mkata floodplain. Upon arrival, you check into your lodge and have lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy your first game drive in Mikumi. Expect excellent wildlife sightings including zebras, giraffes, elephants, wildebeests, and lions often seen resting or moving across the open savannah plains.
The wide landscapes make Mikumi one of the easiest parks for clear and rewarding wildlife viewing.
Day 2: Mikumi – Drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park
After breakfast, you take a short scenic drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park, part of the Eastern Arc Mountains known for high biodiversity and rainforest ecosystems.
The landscape changes dramatically from dry savannah to lush green forest, misty hills, and flowing rivers. Upon arrival, you check into your lodge near the forest edge.
In the afternoon, enjoy a guided trek into the rainforest. The trail leads through dense vegetation filled with monkeys, birds, and unique plant species. The highlight is the Sanje Waterfalls, where cascading water drops into natural forest pools with panoramic valley views.
Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay in a peaceful mountain setting.
Day 3: Udzungwa – Return to Dar es Salaam
Early morning offers a relaxed nature experience or optional short walk around the forest edge, depending on time and energy.
After breakfast, you begin your return journey by road back to Dar es Salaam, passing through scenic countryside and rural Tanzania landscapes.
Arrival is expected in the afternoon or evening, marking the end of your short but diverse safari experience combining wildlife plains and rainforest adventure.
